Garry Monk: "Scoreline flatters Arsenal"

Swansea City manager Garry Monk suggests that his side were the better team in the first half and were unlucky to lose 3-0 to Arsenal at Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has suggested that the 3-0 scoreline flattered Arsenal in Saturday's defeat to the Gunners at Liberty Stadium.

Strikes from Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and a first Arsenal goal for Joel Campbell condemned the Swans to a fourth defeat in eight matches and left them 13th in the Premier League table.

Monk was unhappy with the goals that his side conceded but said that he would take plenty of positives from the defeat.

"They were two poor goals on our behalf that gifted the game to Arsenal," he told reporters. "It is a shame because there were so many positives and it looked like we would go on and get a positive result.

"Mertesacker's was definitely handball. The other one was on Bafi [Gomis] and I am not so sure. I have seen the second goal given so many times as a foul and of course you should play to the whistle, but the goals were poor from us.

"There were a lot of positives in our play and we were exceptional in the first half. We should have taken the lead when we were on top. We gifted them two goals and you cannot do that against any team, let alone Arsenal. I am disappointed to lose, but I think that the scoreline flatters Arsenal. We had chances to score and were the better team in the first half."

Next up for Swansea is a trip to Norwich City next Saturday.
