Arsene Wenger ignoring Jose Mourinho comments

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger shrugs off comments from Jose Mourinho regarding the club's spending in recent seasons.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will take no notice of Jose Mourinho's comments over the Gunners' recent spending.

Wenger has brought the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to the Emirates Stadium in recent seasons, spending more than £140m on seven players in the last two years.

However, the Frenchman has stressed that the club have only spent what they can afford and pointed out that he is often criticised for not splashing enough cash.

"When we have the money available, we spend it. We just try to make the right decisions," he told reporters.

"I believe that one day if you make real statistics of the players we have developed here and compare them to the other clubs, you will be surprised. I think what you want is not to listen too much to what people say, because sometimes in the same week I get two different reproaches: one I don't spend enough and one too much.

"I believe if you want to create success, which we want desperately, it is best to focus on inside and try to do as well as we can, believe in the football we want to play, play it as well as we can and let other people talk."

Arsenal's only signing of this summer saw Petr Cech arrive from Chelsea for almost £11m.

Mourinho and Wenger will come head to head once again this Sunday in the Community Shield at Wembley.
