Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Sunderland

Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's EFL Cup quarter-final against League One Sunderland.

The games continue to come thick and fast for Arsenal, who welcome League One Sunderland to the Emirates Stadium in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.

The Gunners stormed to a 4-1 victory over Leeds United on Saturday, their third successive win to consolidate their position in the top four of the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta will now turn his attention to securing progress in the EFL Cup, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs and Arsenal firm favourites to get there.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's encounter.

Type of injury: COVID-19
Possible return date: Unknown

Arsenal confirmed before the Leeds match that Albert Sambi Lokonga has tested positive for coronavirus, ruling him out of the festive period while he isolates.

Pablo Mari missed out against Leeds too, with Arteta revealing after the game that the defender has also tested positive for coronavirus.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Muscular
Possible return date: December 21 (vs. Sunderland)

Takehiro Tomiyasu was forced off shortly after the hour mark against Leeds, having felt muscular discomfort. Arteta revealed after the match that the substitution was precautionary, but he is unlikely to take any risks for an EFL Cup game against lower-league opposition.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Possible return date: December 21 (vs. Sunderland)

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also doubtful due to illness, although there has been no suggestion yet that his absence is due to coronavirus.

Sead Kolasinac

Sead Kolasinac is not expected back in full training until next year as he continues to battle back from a serious ankle injury.

ARSENAL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Possible return date: December 21 (vs. Sunderland)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has now been left out of Arsenal's last three games, stripped of the captaincy and banished from first-team training due to his disciplinary breach earlier this month. A return against Sunderland seems unlikely, but Arteta is yet to categorically rule him out.
