Aaron Ramsey: 'Wales can match Europe's biggest teams'

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey insists that his side can do more than make up the numbers at Euro 2016.

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has insisted that his side are capable of matching the continent's biggest names during Euro 2016.

Ramsey will be part of the first Wales squad to travel to a major international tournament for 58 years, with their first game coming against Slovakia on June 11.

Chris Coleman's side have also been drawn in a group alongside England and Russia, but Ramsey is confident that they can do more than simply make up the numbers.

"Now that we are here we don't just want to be rolled over. Every game we play we want to make a statement and we're more than capable of doing that. It's a big achievement not only for me personally, but also for the team and for our country. We've worked our socks off to get here and we want to prove we're more than capable of matching the bigger nations," the Arsenal man told reporters.

"We always believed in this group right from when Gary Speed took over. We knew what we had. Everything was put in place for us to carry on what we started, and from then on it's just been great. It's so exciting and we can't wait to get started now. I got a little taste of how it works (at the Olympics) with the games and the quick turnaround. But this is different.

"We've known each other for a number of years now. It was one of the biggest targets in my career to help Wales to a major championship and I've finally achieved that. For me personally I've played in some big games, but everybody's eyes will be on this tournament. I want to show that I'm more than capable of standing up and proving I can play at this level."

Wales will face Sweden on Sunday, June 5 in their only scheduled Euro 2016 warm-up game.
