Sulley Muntari has had his contract at AC Milan terminated by the Italian club.
The midfielder's deal at San Siro still had 12 months left to run before it expired at the end of next season.
However, Milan have decided to release the Ghanaian, who can now move to another team on a free transfer.
"AC Milan and Sulley Muntari have reached a mutual agreement to terminate the contract that tied the player to the club," read a statement on the club's official website.
"AC Milan would like to thank Muntari for his dedication and professionalism during his years at the club and wish him all the best for the future."
The 30-year-old joined Milan from city rivals Inter in 2012.
