FIFA president Sepp Blatter says that players should not "run away" from games if they are subjected to racial abuse from the supporters and calls for tougher sanctions.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said that AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was wrong to walk off the pitch when he was racially abused by Pro Patria fans.

The Ghanaian was followed by his Rossoneri teammates in abandoning the friendly game in Busto Arsizio on Thursday.

"Walk off? No, I don't think that is the solution," the Daily Mail quotes Blatter as saying in Dubai on Sunday. "But the Italian federation has yet to provide FIFA with the report detailing what exactly happened.

"I don't think you can run away because eventually you can run away if you lose a match. This issue is a very touchy subject, but I repeat there is zero tolerance of racism in the stadium; we have to go against that.

"The only solution is to be very harsh with the sanctions - and the sanctions must be a deduction of points or something similar."

Milan wore anti-racism T-shirts prior to their Serie A game against Siena at San Siro on Sunday that they won 2-1.
