Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has said that Massimiliano Allegri was made a scapegoat for AC Milan's poor form in the league this season.
Allegri was sacked as manager of the Rossoneri following their 4-3 defeat against Sassuolo this weekend, and Buffon has claimed that the criticism he received was unjustified.
"Sometimes they look for scapegoats to put in place and feed the fans," he told Tiki Taka.
"It was not always so - if Allegri has a fault it is that he did not have the courage to walk away when for over a year he had suffered attacks from inside that were unjustified and too much for what he could do with the squad he had."
Milan are currently 11th in the Serie A table.
