Aberdeen sign goalkeeper Tomas Cerny

Aberdeen complete the signing of Czech stopper Tomas Cerny from Partick Thistle on a free.

Aberdeen have signed Czech Republic goalkeeper Tomas Cerny on a free transfer following his release from Partick Thistle.

The 33-year-old, who has also played for rivals Hibernian, exercised a release clause earlier this summer after the Jags were relegated to the Scottish Championship.

Cerny is seen as back-up to current number one Joe Lewis, following Danny Rogers's departure earlier this month on loan to St Mirren.

Dons boss Derek McInnes told the Daily Record: "When we made the decision to allow Danny Rogers to go out on loan, we had been looking at potential options to provide cover for Joe Lewis and the injury to young David Craddock at Inverurie on Monday evening accelerated that process.

"We're delighted to bring in a player with such experience and who was so willing to get the deal done. Having Tomas as cover will allow Danny to gain valuable match experience at St Mirren."

Cerny made 25 appearances for Partick Thistle last season, with 75 in total for the perennial strugglers.
