Saints have a win and a draw against Aberdeen already this season.

Boss Tommy Wright wants St Johnstone to continue this season's good form against Aberdeen when the Dons visit McDiarmid Park on Saturday.

Saints, two points ahead of Motherwell in sixth place in the Ladbrokes Premiership and fresh from an encouraging goalless draw against Rangers at Ibrox last weekend following five defeats, have a win and a draw against Derek McInnes's side this season and the Northern Irishman is keen to pick up more points.

He told the club's official website: "We've had a good week in training and now we've got build on what was a very good result and performance last weekend.

"We need to take the good things from that game into the match tomorrow and indeed into all the games from now until the end of the season.

"If we do that then I'm confident we can get enough points to be in the top six.

"It's going to be a difficult game tomorrow but we've done well against Aberdeen this year.

"We had a great win up at Pittodrie and secured a good point here at home.

"Tomorrow we're coming up against a side with good physical presence and we've got to make sure we compete with them on that side of things first and foremost. Then we can look to force our own game on them."

Wright is wary of in-form Dons striker Sam Cosgrove – who has scored 17 goals for the Granite City men this season – but insists Aberdeen boss McInnes has a number of talented players in his squad.

He said: "Sam Cosgrove is obviously in great form so we'll need to deal with his threat tomorrow.

"He's got the size and the quality to be a real handful so we need to defend well and stop the supply to him.

"It's a good squad around him as well with the likes of (Greg) Stewart, (Niall) McGinn, (Gary) Mackay-Steven, (Lewis) Ferguson and (Graeme) Shinnie but we know we have a lot of quality in our squad as well.

"We know it will be difficult but a positive result here and in midweek will go a long way to helping secure a top-six finish for us."
