Bradley Wiggins believes that the International Cycling Union failed to handle the Lance Armstrong doping scandal in an appropriate way.

British Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins has criticised the International Cycling Union for the way it handled the Lance Armstrong doping scandal.

The 2012 Tour de France winner believes that the ICU and its president Pat McQuaid should have been tougher on rules.

"I'm not interested in what happens to Lance," ESPN quotes Wiggins as saying. "My worry is in what state this scandal leaves cycling.

"Where have Pat McQuaid and all the others brought this sport? Certainly not in a great position, especially for the riders racing now. Our credibility is on the line."

Armstrong confessed to taking performance-enhancing drugs during his cycling career in an interview with Oprah Winfrey last week.
