West Indies name Jason Holder as new Test captain

Jason Holder replaces Denesh Ramdin as the West Indies' Test captain.

Jason Holder has been named as the West Indies' new Test captain ahead of next month's tour of Sri Lanka.

The bowling all-rounder will replace Denesh Ramdin as skipper, with the wicketkeeper-batsman dropping back into the ranks.

West Indies Cricket Board head selector Clive Lloyd deemed a fresh approach necessary following the Windies' consecutive Test defeats against Australia.

"He is a young man that all of the selectors, people in the Caribbean and worldwide believe has several of the qualities that can take our team forward," said Lloyd in a statement.

"We felt the time was right for a change and we feel he will do as well as he did when he was elevated to the position of one-day international captain ahead of the World Cup."

The Windies' first Test match against Sri Lanka gets underway on October 14.
