West Indies have removed Dwayne Bravo as one-day captain, less than two months before the World Cup begins in February.
All-rounder Jason Holder has been named as Bravo's replacement, despite only having made his international debut last year, and he will lead the side in five one-day games against South Africa.
Chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd told reporters: "We expect him [Holder] to be around for a very long time. He has a very good cricketing brain and has the makings of a very good leader.
"The selectors decided that now is the time to make the transition, and Jason will have people around him to help and guide him.
"Some might say it's close to the time of next year's Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, but we know that we have a good one-day team which can do very well."
Bravo has become the second one-day skipper to lose his role in the past couple of days, after England replaced Alastair Cook with Eoin Morgan.
West Indies are in Pool B at the World Cup, along with South Africa, India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Ireland and United Arab Emirates.
