The West Indies board say that Chris Gayle must withdraw his comments from earlier this year if he is to play for his country again.

Chris Gayle will be reconsidered for selection for the West Indies if he withdraws comments he made earlier this year.

Gayle has not played for his country since criticising the West Indies board and coach Ottis Gibson during a radio interview in April.

Attempted mediation between Gayle and the board has so far failed but the board are now ready to appoint a facilitator to help Gayle return to the side.

"First of all it is disappointing that the matter has gone on for as long as it has," said Clive Lloyd, the West Indies board director.

"What we need now is closure and, to be fair, anyone of whom those comments were made would have a right to take umbrage. Withdrawing the comments would be the intelligent thing to do to get the issue resolved and have everyone move on.

"We need senior players to be in the setup to drive the progress forward and any team would love to entertain Gayle, but under the right circumstances."

West Indies are currently touring Bangladesh before they head to India for a Test and ODI series in November.
