South Africa have beaten Sri Lanka in a reduced-overs match this afternoon to advance to the World Twenty20 super-eight stage as Group C winners.
The game was cut to seven overs per side after rain delayed the start in Hambantota.
AB de Villiers smashed 30 from just 13 balls as South Africa posted a very competitive total of 78, thanks also to some last-over hitting from JP Duminy.
The hosts' reply started poorly when dangerman Tillarkaratne Dilshan was run out without facing a ball, before Mahela Jayawardene was caught off Dale Steyn.
Kumar Sangakkara and Dilshan Munaweera both made 13 for Sri Lanka, but neither could push on as the Asians fell well behind the run rate.
A wicket apiece for Steyn, Albie Morkel and Jacques Kallis helped restrict Sri Lanka further and they eventually finished 32 runs short of their target.
