South Africa have won the opening match of their Twenty20 series with England by seven wickets at the Emirates Durham ICG.

Having lost the toss and been put in to bat, the hosts struggled at the crease as Craig Kieswetter top-scored with a score of 25.

Ravi Bopara continued his recent poor form when he was bowled by Dale Steyn for just six.

Elsewhere, Stuart Broad (18 not out) and Graeme Swann (18 not out) dug in at the end of the innings to help England post a disappointing score of 118-7.

South Africa then stormed towards their target thanks to the knocks of Jacques Kallis (48 not out) and JP Duminy (47 not out).

Kallis eventually hit the winning runs to give the Proteas a score of 119-3 from 19 overs.

The second match of the three-game series takes place at Old Trafford on Monday.
