Kevin Pietersen is not awarded an England central contract for the 2012-2013 season, but talks over his international future are ongoing, according to the ECB.

Kevin Pietersen has missed out on an England central contract, but the ECB have revealed that talks over his future are ongoing.

The 32-year-old has not featured for his country in any format since being dropped from the Test side for sending texts to opponents South Africa in which he commented on his England teammates.

While a meeting between Pietersen and ECB management took place today, his England future remains unclear and the ECB are reluctant to offer him a contract until they are sure that a return is a realistic prospect.

Thus, the charismatic batsman is not included on the 10-man list of players who have been given 12-month deals that run until the end of next summer's Ashes series.

A further four players - Ravi Bopara, Jonny Bairstow, Craig Kieswetter and Graeme Onions - have been awarded incremental contracts.

England central contracts 2012-2013: James Anderson, Ian Bell, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Alastair Cook, Steven Finn, Eoin Morgan, Matt Prior, Graeme Swann and Jonathan Trott
