Melbourne Stars defeat Adelaide Strikers by eight runs in the Big Bash League.

Brad Hodge hit 88 runs off 58 balls to earn Melbourne Stars an eight-run victory over Adelaide Strikers.

Hodge smashed 10 fours and three sixes in an entertaining spell at the crease but he failed to receive any significant support from his teammates, with Rob Quiney's score of 22 the next highest of the innings.

Melbourne eventually set Adelaide a target of 176 to win and Tim Ludeman struck three sixes off the opening overs to give his side the perfect start.

However, once he was dismissed for 30, the Strikers were up against it to remain in contention, despite 35 runs from Callum Ferguson.

Keiron Pollard held the hopes of his team on his shoulders and he smashed the ball to all corners of the outfield with a magnificent 65 runs off 43 balls.

His effort proved in vain, however, as Adelaide fell eight runs short of their target to hand Melbourne the two points.
