An innings of 76 from Mohammad Hafeez has helped Pakistan set New Zealand a target of 252 in the second one-day international in Sharjah.
Despite winning the toss, Pakistan found themselves a man down after the dismissal of Ahmed Shehzad for a five-ball duck before Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq soon followed to leave their side on 20-3.
Haris Sohail helped steady the ship by putting on 77 for the fourth wicket before he was removed by Corey Anderson for 33.
Opener Hafeez remained at the crease to hit nine fours and a six on the way to a knock of 76 but he departed with 15 overs remaining after being caught off the bowling of Matt Henry.
Misbah-ul-Haq had provided solid support for Hafeez but he fell three runs short of his half-century to leave Pakistan on 172-6 with 13 overs left.
Shahid Afridi provided a trademark explosive innings of 27 runs from 14 balls to help his team past 200 before they were eventually bowled out for 252 with nine balls remaining.
