Three wickets apiece for Kyle Mills and Jimmy Neesham have helped New Zealand draw the Twenty20 series with Pakistan courtesy of a 17-run victory in Dubai.

The Kiwis were inserted and posted a reasonable 144-8 in bowler-friendly conditions, which they utilised well to dismiss the hosts in the penultimate over.

Anton Devcich (21) and Kane Williamson (32) put on 49 for the opening wicket before the introduction of spin changed things in Pakistan's favour.

Captain Shahid Afridi took 2-33, while Umar Gul returned at the death to end with figures of 2-24, but Luke Ronchi's 31 from 19 balls, which included two maximums, blasted New Zealand to a decent total.

A career-best 75 from Sarfraz Ahmed saw Pakistan win the first match of the series on Thursday, but Devich picked him up for one in the first over as the acting hosts' reply got off to the worst possible start.

The Black Caps continued to take wickets at regular intervals and only Ahmed Shehzad (33) and Afridi, who made 28 from just 11 delivers, threatened to take the game away from the tourists.

Mills came back into the attack to sweep up the tail as Pakistan were bowled out for 127.
