Kevin Pietersen rejects one-day international advisory role

Despite speaking of a lack of trust, Andrew Strauss reveals that he wanted Kevin Pietersen to take up an advisory role in one-day international cricket.

Director of England cricket Andrew Strauss has revealed that Kevin Pietersen rejected an offer of a position on the one-day international advisory board.

Strauss confirmed earlier today that a lack of trust meant that the 34-year-old would not be recalled to the Test side for this summer's meetings with New Zealand and Australia.

However, despite those differences, Strauss has confirmed that he did want to use Pietersen's experiences of the 50 and 20-over formats of the game - a role that the batsman has turned down.

"Kevin has got brilliant experience in one-day cricket, he's played Twenty20 competitions all around the world, he's got some very strong views on one-day cricket and I think it would be madness not to try to get that information out of his head and help us form a strategy for English cricket going forwards," he told reporters.

"That's why I asked him to be on that board. Ultimately that may be an opportunity for us to start rebuilding trust."

Earlier today, Pietersen scored a career-best 355 runs for Surrey at The Oval.
