Kevin Pietersen finishes unbeaten on 355

Despite his failure to win back his England place, Kevin Pietersen scores a career-best 355 runs for Surrey in the County Championship.

Kevin Pietersen's career-best performance has come to an end.

The 34-year-old returned to the crease for Surrey at The Oval this morning having posted 326 runs against Leicestershire yesterday.

He was able to add a further 29 runs, but when Matthew Dunn lost his wicket, Surrey had been bowled for 557, leaving Pietersen unbeaten on 355 - two short of the county's record individual total.

His knock, which beat his previous best first-class score of 254, included 35 fours and 15 sixes.

However, despite his impressive display, it has not been enough to earn him a recall to the England Test team for the clashes against New Zealand and Australia this summer.

Earlier today, new director of England cricket Andrew Strauss revealed that a "massive trust issue" between the pair meant that Pietersen's inclusion would not be in the "best short-term interests" of the team.
