Jason Gillespie reveals he is not the preferred ECB candidate

Jason Gillespie admits that he is looking forward to continuing his current work after England opted against making him coach.

Former Australia bowler Jason Gillespie has insisted that he is not disappointed to have been overlooked for the England head coach role.

Ex-Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss is reportedly set to accept the job, despite Gillespie holding talks with new director of cricket Andrew Strauss.

Gillespie told Sky Sports News: "The ECB have put out a press release and said they're speaking to their preferred candidate. I've spoken to Andrew Strauss and I'm not that preferred candidate, so that's absolutely fine.

"I wouldn't say I'm disappointed - it would have been a good job to have, no question. There are exciting times ahead for English cricket and it would have been a good challenge.

"But it's not to be. I've got a wonderful job at Yorkshire and with the Adelaide Strikers and I'm really looking forward to continuing that work."

Reports suggest that contract negotiations have already started with Bayliss.
