Alec Stewart: 'Jason Gillespie is the right man for England'

Jason Gillespie can emulate Darren Lehmann's success at Australia if he becomes England's head coach, according to Alec Stewart.

Former Test captain Alec Stewart has backed Jason Gillespie to become England's new head coach.

The Australian held talks with new director of cricket Andrew Strauss earlier this week, and reports say that he will accept the job if it is offered to him.

Stewart told BBC Sport: "When Darren Lehmann took the Australia job, he turned them back into a team from being individuals. If Jason Gillespie takes over with England, I reckon he's got a great chance of doing something similar."

Gillespie is currently in charge of Yorkshire, and guided them to victory in the 2014 County Championship.
