Michael Carberry hopeful of remaining in contention for England

Michael Carberry insists that he will not give up on his hopes of returning to the England squad.

Michael Carberry has insisted that he will not give up on his hopes of playing for England again in the future.

The Hampshire batsman, who played in all five Ashes Tests as England lost 5-0 to Australia in the winter, was in the spotlight recently after criticising limited-overs coach Ashley Giles.

Despite suggestions that his comments may have brought his international career to an end, Carberry is refusing to write off his chances of being selected again.

"In terms of where I stand with England, I've said what I've said and I stand by it," the 33-year-old told BBC Radio Solent.

"If I get a call-up, then I've always been proud to represent my country.

"It's what gets me out of bed every day. But I don't make those decisions."

Carberry has appeared in six Tests and five one-day internationals for England.
