Matthew Hoggard: 'Jonathan Trott's case is not an isolated incident'

Matthew Hoggard believes that stress-related issues are rife within cricket following the news that Jonathan Trott has left the Ashes squad.

Former England bowler Matthew Hoggard believes that stress-related illnesses are rife within cricket following the news surrounding batsman Jonathan Trott.

The 32-year-old decided to leave the England squad from their Ashes tour in Australia in a bid to focus on his recovery.

"If you know that people are suffering and you're not going to take them, then you could be losing half your team because I don't think it's just an isolated incident," Hoggard told BBC Radio Five Live.

"You look at the well documented ones - Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Flintoff, Steven Harmison of my era then I'm sure there's so many more."

England are currently 1-0 down in the Ashes series after Australia secured victory by 381 runs in Brisbane.
