Middlesex confirm Joe Burns signing

Middlesex confirm the signing of Joe Burns as a replacement for Adam Voges, who has been included in Australia's squad for The Ashes.

Middlesex have signed batsman Joe Burns as a replacement for his fellow Australian Adam Voges.

The club were forced to look for alternatives after Voges was selected in Australia's Ashes squad, meaning that the 35-year-old will miss the majority of the County Championship season.

Burns, who was tipped for a place in the same squad after appearing in two Test matches against India in the winter, will play from early May until the middle of July and is available for seven Championship matches and 11 T20 Blast games.

"He's an exciting young player - a good one-day cricketer and an outstanding fielder," Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser told BBC London 94.9.

"He played in the last two Test matches of the Australian summer and I suppose in some ways was a bit unfortunate to be left out."

Middlesex are planning to sign another overseas player when Burns travels to India with the Australia A squad on July 18.
