Paul Collingwood: 'No surprise over Adam Voges selection'

Paul Collingwood believes that there should be no surprise over Australia's decision to include Adam Voges in the Ashes squad.

Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood has claimed that he is not surprised by Australia's decision to name Adam Voges in their squad for The Ashes.

Voges has never played a Test match for Australia, but Collingwood, who has faced the Middlesex captain regularly in the County Championship, believes that his experience will boost the tourists this summer.

"I'm not surprised at all," Collingwood told Sky Sports News. "I've been involved with Perth quite a lot in the past as well and I know the impact he's had at Western Australia and he's obviously a very good batsman.

"He knows his game very well at this age and he keeps performing and that's the main thing; that's what selectors look for. Batsmen these days seem to be getting better and better the older they get.

"Look at [Kumar] Sangakkara and [Mahela] Jayawardene throughout the world. You just see the experience is making them better players and it's no surprise that Adam Voges is involved in the squad."

Voges has played 31 one-day internationals and seven Twenty20 matches for Australia.
