Team GB's Lani Belcher wins silver in 5000m kayak event

Team GB's Lani Belcher finishes second behind Belarus's Maryna Litvinchuk in the women's K1 5000m kayak event at the European Games.

Team GB's Lani Belcher has picked up Great Britain's third medal at the European Games, finishing second in the K1 5000m kayak event in Mingachevir this afternoon.

The race was dominated by Belarus's Maryna Litvinchuk from early on, pulling ahead before the end of the first 1000m to complete the distance in 22:48.990, more than 15 seconds ahead of Belcher.

There was little to separate second, third and fourth as Belcher just crossed the line ahead of Hungary's Renata Csay, while Ireland's Jennifer Egan just missed out on a spot in the top three.

Germany's Melanie Gebhardt looked like she would push Litvinchuk early on, but lost her balance while making a turn to rule her out of the rest of the race.
