Team GB canoeists progress to semi-finals

Team GB's Rachel Cawthorn is through to the K1 500m semi-finals, while Lani Belcher and Angela Hannah progress in the K2 500m event at the European Games.

A number of Team GB's canoeists have progressed to the semi-finals in their events at the European Games in Baku this morning.

Rachel Cawthorn was second in her heat in the K1 500m event with a time of 1:53.226, three seconds behind Hungary's Danuta Kozak, who set a European Games best time of 1:50.106.

Ireland's Jennifer Egan is also through to the semi-final, and will compete in the first run, while Cawthorn goes in the second semi.

Lani Belcher and Angela Hannah, who had already been in action securing a spot in the K4 500m final, took to the course again in the K2 500m event.

The pair finished fifth in the second heat, narrowly missing out on automatic qualification for the final, but they have another chance in the semi-final later today.
