Luke McCormack "gutted" after defeat

Team GB boxer Luke McCormack speaks to Sports Mole after his last-16 exit in the 2015 European Games.

Team GB boxer Luke McCormack has admitted that he was "gutted" after losing in the last-16 stage of the 2015 European Games on Saturday.

McCormack was beaten by Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha in what was his second fight in Baku, but refused to blame an earlier bout of food poisoning for the defeat.

"I am absolutely gutted. Proper devastated," McCormack told Sports Mole.

"[Ouminha] was good, I just could not catch him. He was too quick on his feet and did not want to fight. He was too quick."

McCormack's close friend and fellow boxer Joe Cordina beat Oumiha last week, and the 20-year-old has claimed that made his defeat even harder to take.

"That makes it even worse doesn't it? I thought I could have beat him," he added.

"I don't want to blame [illness during my time in Baku] really, but you don't know."

McCormack lost all three rounds to Oumiha according to the scorecards.
