First-round cut stops Muhammad Ali fight

Great Britain's Muhammad Ali exits the 2015 European Games to experienced Vincenzo Picardi after the referee stopps the fight in Baku following a cut.

Muhammad Ali has exited the 2015 European Games at the last-16 stage after a first-round cut stopped his fight with experienced Italian boxer Vincenzo Picardi.

The 18-year-old Team GB competitor kicked off his Baku campaign with a unanimous points win over Moldova's Alexandr Riscan last Tuesday.

Ali's fight with 2008 bronze medallist Picardi did not last one round, however, with a cut forcing the referee to stop proceedings.

There was success for Great Britain elsewhere in the boxing event earlier today, meanwhile, as Sandy Ryan moved into the women's welterweight quarters with victory over Germany's Cindy Rogge.

Luke McCormack will take on Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha later this afternoon, while compatriot Joe Joyce faces Alexei Zavatin.
