Promoter Frank Maloney insists that British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price is ready to fight for a world title.

Promoter Frank Maloney believes that David Price is "head and shoulders" above any British boxer in the heavyweight division.

Price stopped Matt Skelton inside two rounds on Friday night to defend his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.

Maloney said: "David is head and shoulders above the domestic competition, now it's time for the world stage.

"One of the Klitschkos will retire some time next year and that will throw the whole heavyweight division open.

"Our plan is to be in a mandatory position to fight for a heavyweight world title when that happens, so we can control our own destiny."

Price's next fight is rumoured to be against American Tony Thompson in February.
