Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose believes that he made a statement after wearing a T-shirt that read "I Can't Breathe" ahead of Saturday's game against the Golden State Warriors.
The 26-year-old wore the garment in support of Eric Garner and his family, and he revealed that he felt a personal connection to try to get his message out.
"I'm a parent now. Probably two years ago, it probably would have been different. I probably would not have worn the shirt. But now I'm a dad, it just changed my outlook on life, period," he told reporters.
"I don't want my son growing up being scared of the police or even having that thought on his mind that something like that could happen."
Several other NBA players have followed suit this week, with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and various Brooklyn Nets players donning the same T-shirt on Monday night at the Barclays Center.
