Laura Weightman pulls out of 1500m World Athletics Championships semi-finals

Laura Weightman pulls out of the women's 1500m semi-finals in Beijing on medical advice.

Great Britain's Laura Weightman has pulled out of the women's 1500m semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships on medical advice.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist from Glasgow last year fell across the line at the end of her heat on Saturday and was monitored overnight.

However, her coach Steve Cram revealed that Weightman's exit from the competition was for the best.

He told BBC Sport: "She was dazed for quite a while afterwards. She's absolutely in no state to do herself justice."

Weightman also won bronze at last year's European Championships in Zurich.
