Paula Radcliffe: 'Callum Hawkins could qualify for next year's Olympic Games'

Former British distance runner Paula Radcliffe says that Callum Hawkins has the potential to qualify for the marathon at the next year's Olympic Games.

Paula Radcliffe has insisted that Callum Hawkins's best event could be in the marathon rather than over half the distance.

Last weekend, Hawkins was the highest-placed British athlete, behind Mo Farah, at the Great North Run, but Radcliffe, the world record holder for the women's marathon, feels that the Scot could gain his best results over 26.2 miles.

The 41-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "It is tough to prepare for but some people are more suited to marathons than others.

"If you are mentally ready and prepared to invest in it, then it can be perfect. Someone like Callum has huge potential I think for that event."

Hawkins will run his first marathon in Frankfurt next month.
