Great Britain's Shelly Woods says that her place in the T54 1,500m final was "unexpected" due to her inconsistent Paralympics campaign.

Great Britain's Paralympic wheelchair sprinter Shelly Woods has admitted that she never expected to win her T54 1,500m heat at the Olympic Stadium this morning.

The British athlete finished the race at the top of the pack following her disappointing exit from the 800m event.

"It was quite unexpected," The Telegraph quotes Woods as saying. "I came out wanting one good race. I've had a tough week so far, knock-back after knock-back.

"I just wanted to come out and enjoy this. I've always believed I can get in the mix. I know it's all there. You just have to pull it all together."

Woods will be joined by compatriot Jade Jones in the final.
