Jamaican Olympian Nesta Carter - part of the 2008 and 2012 gold-medal winning relay teams - is handed a four-year ban for a doping offence.

Nesta Carter - a retired Jamaican sprinter who won golds at the World Championships and Olympic Games - has been banned for four years for a doping offence.

The 36-year-old announced his retirement back in August, four years after his 2008 relay team lost their gold medals from the Beijing games over a sample containing Methylhexanamine.

Now, a subsequent sample from Carter showed traces of clomiphene - which can be used to alter testosterone levels - although he claimed that the medication containing the banned substance was given to him by a doctor.

However, Jamaica's Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel nevertheless handed him a four-year suspension for the positive test, which was recorded out of competition back in March.

Carter, Asafa Powell, Michael Frater and Usain Bolt were stripped of their 2008 Olympic relay title following his positive Methylhexanamine test, despite an appeal from the former.

Carter took three gold medals at the World Championships during his competitive career and also won Olympic gold with Jamaica in the 4 x 100 m relay at London 2012.
