Jamaica publicly back Lord Sebastian Coe for IAAF presidency

Jamaica publicly support Lord Sebastian Coe's campaign for the IAAF presidency.

Jamaica have given their backing to Lord Sebastian Coe to become the new president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

The 58-year-old, who recently visited members of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association in Kingston, is running against Ukraine's Sergey Bubka.

"The decision to support Coe was based on the fact that we support the pillars of his manifesto," JAAA president Warren Blake told The Gleaner.

"As a Federation, as an organisation, we need to embrace change and to lead the change through innovation like the street festival and street athletics programmes [advanced by Coe].

"Lord Coe sees the importance of giving more power to the Federations and, importantly, maximising the commercial growth and the exposure of track and field."

The presidency will be vacated by Lamine Diack in August.
