Ukrainian Sergey Bubka to run for IAAF presidency

Ukrainian Sergey Bubka announces plans to challenge Sebastian Coe for the IAAF presidency.

Former pole vaulter Sergey Bubka has announced his intentions to run against Sebastian Coe for the presidency of the International Association of Athletic Federations.

The 51-year-old head of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee is hopeful that he will be elected to replace Lamine Diack when he leaves his role in August.

"We also need to provide greater grassroots support to inspire the next generation of athletes," BBC Sport quotes Bubka as saying.

"We need to better engage with young people and build new audiences, and we need to ensure protection of clean sport."

Lord Coe confirmed late last year that he will run for the presidency.
