IAAF confirms 2019 Athletics World Championships host candidates

Barcelona, Doha and Eugene are all bidding to host the 2019 Athletics World Championships.

The International Association of Athletics Federations has confirmed that Barcelona, Doha and Eugene are in contention to host the 2019 Athletics World Championships.

Doha in Qatar and Eugene, Oregon in the United States both play host to Diamond League events during the season while Catalan capital Barcelona hosted the European Championships in 2010.

Lord Sebastian Coe chairs the IAAF Evaluation Commission and will visit each of the cities for two days later this month.

The winner will be announced in Monaco on November 18.

Beijing hosts the event next year while the 2017 edition will be held at the Olympic Stadium in London.
