President of the International Association of Athletics Federation Lamine Diack has insisted that they will deal with the doping "crisis" by opening disciplinary proceedings against numerous Russian athletes.
Allegations of widespread doping were made in a documentary aired on German television last year, which has led to numerous suspensions.
Three of which are Olympic race-walking champions - Olga Kaniskina, Sergei Kirdyapkin and Valery Borchin.
"It's a difficult crisis but we will put it behind us by cleaning all this," Diack told BBC Sport.
IAAF anti-doping manager Thomas Capdevielle told reporters on Monday: "We hope to at least initiate proceedings in the next two or three months on the first individuals."
It has been confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have begun against coach Viktor Chegin, who trained at the Russian race-walking centre in Saransk.
