Russell Wilson "delighted" with Seattle Seahawks deal

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson admits that he was elated to secure a four-year contract extension with the club.

Russell Wilson has revealed that he was delighted to commit his future to the Seattle Seahawks by agreeing a long-term deal.

The 26-year-old penned a contract until the end of the 2019 season worth $87.6m (£56.1m), with $61.5m (£39.3m) guaranteed, to make him the second highest paid signal-caller in the NFL.

Wilson has insisted there was never any bitterness between him and the club in their dispute over the deal in the summer, when it looked unlikely that an agreement could be secured.

He told reporters: "I didn't think it was personal. I knew it was business. At the end of the day, I'm happy to be a Seahawk. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. It's a blessing to be here on a championship-type team and the goal is to win the Super Bowl this year.

"My focus the whole time. Has pretty much been on getting ready for the season. You know, I've been excited about that, just to play football again. Ultimately, no matter how much I make, down the road or in the past, or whatever, it's always been about the game and trying to get ready.

"I'm always an optimist. An ultimate one. I always believed that it would work out and always believed that I wanted to play here, obviously, so it was exciting."

Wilson has thrown for 9,950 yards along with 72 touchdowns to 26 interceptions in his three years in the NFL.
