Mike Tomlin signs Pittsburgh Steelers extension

Mike Tomlin agrees to a two-year extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has put pen to paper on a two-year extension with the organisation, with the new deal making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NFL.

The extension runs through to the 2018 season, and puts Tomlin into the top five with regards to coaching salaries.

"Mike has proven he is one of the top head coaches in the National Football League, and we are confident he will continue to lead the team in our pursuit of another Super Bowl championship," team president Art Rooney II said in a statement.

In eight seasons with the franchise, Tomlin has four AFC North titles, five playoff appearances and one Super Bowl win in two appearances.

Tomlin is the sixth-longest tenured coach in the league, and has an 82-46 record in eight seasons.
