Ben Roethlisberger signs new five-year deal with Pittsburgh Steelers

Super Bowl-winning Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger agrees a new five-year contract to keep him with the team until the end of the 2019 season.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has signed a new five-year deal with the club to secure his long-term future with the AFC North outfit.

The 33-year-old was entering the final year of his deal with the Steelers and had previously been linked with a trade deal away from the club in the 2013 campaign.

However, the two parties have come to an agreement on a five-year deal, worth up to $108m [£73m], to keep the quarterback at the club until the end of the 2019 season.

"It's home," Roethlisberger told reporters. "It's family. As much as my wife and kids are family, so is the Rooney family. It just means a lot. I just love this place."

Team owner Art Rooney II added. ""Certainly a lot of things happened around the league. For us there was nothing more important than getting this done. We're really happy with the way the first week of free agency ended."

Roethlisberger has won two Super Bowls with the Steelers since joining the club in 2004.
