Greg McElroy is unable to lead the New York Jets to a win on his first start for the team, having been sacked 11 times by the San Diego Chargers.

Greg McElroy's first start for the New York Jets resulted in a 27-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

The 24-year-old was sacked 11 times, threw an interception and completed only 14 passes.

The Jets started well, Shonn Greene scoring twice in the opening quarter, and led 14-10 at half-time.

Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley completed a 42-yard pass in the wildcat formation, despite Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow both being active.

Danario Alexander and Antonio Gates scored third-quarter touchdowns to put the Chargers ahead.

With both teams already out of playoff contention, the result has little bearing on the postseason.
