Greg McElroy: 'I've dreamed about New York Jets chance'

Greg McElroy says that he has been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as starting quarterback for the New York Jets.

Greg McElroy has said that being confirmed as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets is a dream come true.

McElroy has been the third-stringer for the Jets for most of the season, but has been promoted following Mark Sanchez's struggles against the Tennessee Titans on Monday.

The 24-year-old said: "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This is a great moment and a great milestone in my career.

"Obviously this is something I've looked forward to and I've dreamed about my entire life. I'm thrilled to have this opportunity.

"[Sanchez and Tim Tebow] are unselfish and have been nothing but helpful. I can't say enough about those guys. If the roles were flipped, I'd be rooting those guys on and they'll be doing the same for me."

The Jets face the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
