Miami Dolphins' defense holds firm to beat Indianapolis Colts

A late stand from the Miami Dolphins defense helps Joe Philbin's side beat the Indianapolis Colts to move to 2-0 in their NFL season.

The Miami Dolphins moved to 2-0 in their NFL season with a 24-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Miami took advantage of a failed field goal by Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri as Ryan Tannehill got his offense moving with several throws to Mike Wallace, and his side opened the scoring when he found Wallace on a screen and the receiver ran into the endzone for an 18-yard score.

Luck responded as he found his favourite target Reggie Wayne to move his team into the Miami 20, but they could not score a touchdown as the Dolphins tightened up their defense, which forced Vinatieri back into action and this time he did get his side on the board with a 30-yard field goal.

Tannehill and Miami extended their lead after the quarterback found Charles Clay with a 67-yard pass to move them to the Colts' 10. Running back Lamar Miller ran into the endzone in the next play with a 10-yard run to take the score to 14-3.

Luck looked in good rhythm and he rallied his team by driving them down the field yet again, but this time they did get the touchdown they needed as he hit tight end Coby Fleener on the left side of the endzone for a three-yard score.

However, this lead lasted only a minute as Caleb Sturgis kicked a 54-yard field goal to tie at the break. The Colts regained the advantage after half time through the boot of Vinatieri with a 38-yard field goal.

The momentum in the game was to swing yet again as the Dolphins went on another drive with Tannehill leading the way as the made it to the one-yard line. Clay powered over on a full back run to return the lead to Miami.

Luck had the chance to win the game for his side late on with the score at 24-20, but the Dolphins defense held firm on fourth down to force the quarterback into an in-completion to seal the win.
