Calvin Johnson says that it was special to break Jerry Rice's season-single receiving record.

Calvin Johnson has said that breaking Jerry Rice's single-season receiving record took a lot of work.

The Detroit Lions wide receiver caught 11 passes for 225 yards to pass Rice's 1,848-yard total from 1995.

The 27-year-old told reporters: "It's an accomplishment that took a lot of work. You're still in the moment, in the play that just happened, so I was still focused.

"I don't think I even said anything when I gave my dad the ball [after breaking the record]. I just gave him a hug. But when I think back on it, it's a special moment.

"We called the route, and I just bounced it around. I was just like, 'See the ball, see the ball.' The guys were telling me that I was 4 or 5 yards away, everybody was keeping the record up."

Despite Johnson's performance, the Lions lost 31-18 to the Atlanta Falcons.
