Cardiff Blues are still without a win in this season's Heineken Cup after they went down 34-21 to Montpellier in France.
A fourth consecutive defeat has left the Welsh club bottom of Pool 6.
The visitors started strongly and they were rewarded on six minutes when Sam Warburton scored the opening try of the contest.
Martin Bustos Moyana kicked between the posts soon after to get Montpellier going, but Cardiff extended their lead through Rhys Patchell's penalty.
The home side then took control of the match as tries from Timoci Nagusa and Rassie van Vuuren, both converted by Bustos Moyana, gave them a 17-8 lead at the break.
Yohan Audrin's unconverted score at the start of the second period saw Montpellier move out of sight, but Alex Cuthbert's try, converted by Patchell, gave Cardiff some hope.
It didn't last long though as Bustos Moyana added the extras after Johannie Beattie had touched down.
Two Patchell penalties after the hour set up an edgy finish, but Bustos Moyana scored his second penalty of the night late on to seal the win.
