Former Hull FC scrum-half Tony Dean dies after battle with cancer

Former Hull FC scrum-half Tony Dean passes away at the age of 65 after a long battle with cancer.

Tony Dean, the former Hull FC, Castleford, Batley and Hunslet scrum-half, has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Dean, who was 65, died at the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract on Friday.

"Tony was a fine player for Hull, a true rugby league character and a fine ambassador for our sport," Hull FC owner Adam Pearson told reporters.

"We all have some great memories of Tony as a player and it was very sad to hear of his passing."

Dean is best remembered for being part of the Hull FC side that won the Challenge Cup against Widnes in 1982.
